When Motivation Strikes

Wow. I wish I felt like this all the time. I’ve just woken up after only heading to bed an hour ago, it’s eleven PM. I jumped out of bed feeling energized and motivated.
This happens to me quite frequently but I wish it stayed with me for longer than it usually does. I’ve just sat down with a pad and a pen and wrote down some goals for 2008. Not even specifically for 2008, but for now, for in a months time, for my future.
Over the course of the next 12 months there’s so much I want to do, so many experiences I want to be put through, and so many things I’d love to acquire. I’m planing to have much more fun in my life, to enjoy what I do and take it to the next level. To excel in everything I make a start on - first and foremost, my main projects online, this blog and my video show.
Tonight I’ve tried to make the most of the situation and grab the pad and pen to get some thoughts out of my head. I’m so glad I did, I feel I now have some focus in my life for the next 12 months. Is it just me or do you often get sudden rushes of excitement and motivation?

UmairYeah, me too. But usually cant do much about them. But it really does give you a motivation boost, and I love it when it happens. I pray that you succeed in watever you are planning to do. :)

I know that exact same feeling Glenn. It doesn’t always happen when I’m sleeping, but whenever I just clear my mind, and lay on my bed, and just, well, be. It’s amazing how motivated I can get, and how many goals and thoughts and emotions go through my mind. When it was my birthday, I looked at it as more than just a day, but what I have accomplished and acquired and learned over the past year. It’s pretty amazing, and sometimes I think people are just too busy, that they don’t take time to stop, and focus on themselves.
It’s amazing, yet pitiful how some people (like the commenters above) miss it. And what’s even more sad, is that they criticize you for being able to examine and look at your life, when they themselves can’t even see it.
It’s the way of the world. If you are being criticized, it means you are doing something right.

I have to say Glenn, if I have any strength it’s this exact one. I think of all of my idea while in bed, and often wake up and either grab the pen and pad I have at the side of my bed, or rush down stairs to do some work, type out something, finish a logo design, send an email, make up some action points I must take, or acquire one to several domains.
In fact, while I’m here, I’d like to let you know that hopefully we’ll be starting working on M.F.M.A. in February 2008 with an April launch. I want to get this done as fast as I can, but I certainly don’t want to over-rush it if it means it’s not going to “absolutely” blow people away. Maybe you’ll be starting your little bit within those three months, I’ll definitely keep you posted.

Michael Mistretta, you just wrote exactly how I feel.
Sometimes it can be a little annoying though. I mean, I can find myself lying in bed for hours not getting any sleep, repeating my thoughts over and over again.
I should maybe try out the pen and pad and get some of this down too!
It’s nice to know there are others out there that also have the same imaginative mind (if that even makes sense)…

JamesOkay, here’s some constructive criticism: your writing sucks. You write with meticulous detail about incredibly boring and trivial things. Honestly, you can prattle on all you want about the traffic you get, but I don’t really care what you do each morning, seriously. Originally I thought your posts were a satirical lampooning of egotistical chumps who are so engrossed with their own life that they feel the duty to remind people what device they use while eating breakfast and other incredibly inane things - but you’re serious! So while this little egomaniac shtick may be your recipe for success, I’m telling you to abstain from reminding us how many HDMI inputs you have in your [insert technology], and to try to embellish your writing to make things interest for those of us who aren’t drooling, servile retards waiting to hear what’s the latest trend from a 15-year-old Apple stooge.

CharlieGlenn; I often experience the phenomenon that you are describing. It’s a fascinating occurrence. However, I unfortunately seldom follow up the ideas I come up with in these bursts of motivation!
Sam; I am not endorsing James’s views here, but I will go so far to say that he probably does have some comprehension of the words he used considering he strung a fairly coherent argument together with them. Aside from the fact that they aren’t exactly the most complex words : /

James, Damien: Chill. I don’t know what feeling of entitlement you think you are getting by specifically visiting this blog, commenting, and recommenting. If you hate Glenn’s writing as much as you say, then why return to check for more comments? Why read the article and comment on the entry in the first place? You are doing nothing but increasing Glenn’s hits, helping his page rank, and pissing off a bunch of people who have loyally followed Glenn’s blog because of a genuine interest in his writing.

Bryan MullerI personally think that both Damien and James are a little messed up in the head. If this site upsets them so much, then why do they bother coming back in the first place? If a “normal” (and I’m using this term very loosely) person doesn’t like something, then why doesn’t he leave and go some place else?
