Review Of iPod Touch On Macguide

I’ve just finished polishing up my 1500 word review on the new 16GB iPod touch for Macguide. I’ve been really impressed with the iPod to date, it’s quickly becoming one of my favorite Apple products. The user interface is one of the best features of the iPod touch, it makes searching for and browsing through music a very smooth experience.

I’ve been very impressed with my iPod touch. Although it lacks in areas such as capacity, Safari reliability, and a difficult on screen keyboard, it makes up for all of this with its smooth user interface which is an absolute joy to play with.

Our advice, if you’re drooling over the iPhone, buy the iPod touch now. If you’re happy with “just” 16GB of storage and want to upgrade from a previous generation iPod, the iPod touch is perfectly suited.

A few good points to be made about the device among a few negative made in the article include some of the following.

    Almost scratch proof screen
    Superb battery life
    Slimness and lightweight design
    Beautiful touch based interface
    One word: Wi-Fi

    Was just wondering about your opiion on the iTunes Wifi Store. Alos, whe n you did your review, were you running v1.1.1? Do you notice any performance difference in the 1.1.1 update speed or stability wise?

    1.1.1 was used. I’d be happy to write a piece on my opinions of the iTunes Wi-Fi store here tomorrow or the next day for you. But rest assured, it will be jam packed with praise ;-)

    You call your review in-depth, but each section is around one paragraph long? Also, “Flash based HDD” - It’s Flash-based storage, since flash isn’t a hard drive- there’s no relation between the two. You say the iPod touch doesn’t require a case - but what about the back which is metal and can easily scratch?

    You call your review in-depth, but each section is around one paragraph long? Also, “Flash based HDD” - You have lost all my respect. It’s Flash-based storage, since flash isn’t a hard drive. You say the iPod touch doesn’t require a case - but what about the back which is metal and can easily scratch? In all, I must say your review could’ve been way better. Nice try though.

    Well he could have called it a flashed based SSD to be technically correct, but then no-one would have known what he was on about! Get off your high horse.

    Or just “flash-based storage”. :-) Then it would have been correct, and people would have known what he means. One of the things people must understand is that writers have the responsibility to make their articles as accurate as humanly possible, and I’d know as a former online columnist.

    Keep in mind I cut this review from 2500 words down to 1500 - 1500 words is long enough for anyone to read, I wanted to cut a lot of it out to keep the reading time reduced. I could have elaborated further, and that is what I will be doing here over the next few weeks as stated above.

    Great review, Glenn. I really wished you covered the screen quality though, especially since there seem to be a lot of unhappy people out there! I’m expecting my Touch on Monday for my birthday!     I think capacity is a reasonable trade-off for the form factor. I also think that Apple made the right decision to give hard-core music fans the iPod classic, while the iPod touch seems like a upper-end toy.

    I do understand that low capacity makes little sense on a device aimed to play back video as well.

    1500 words? I know how hard it is to make my 500 word posts 2-3 times every week.
    Good luck with it, bro - just make sure its not going to burn you out(I’ve had that issue, and now post less often but not less quantity/quality).

    Correct, even if it’s in your pocket. Though the screen smudges very easily which becomes a pain after a while. All in all, not huge problems.

    My gripes:

    - 16 gb space
    - Pricey
    - Games

    I think it’s a bit of a ripoff that I can’t play the games that I paid for through i tunes on the touch. It also seems a bit pricey when compared to the iPhone. I know it could be useful to countries that don’t have the iPhone yet, but for me, that’s not really an issue.
