New Years Resolutions: 2008 Edition

I don’t have many resolutions this year, just four. Four simple goals I’d like to follow in the calendar year of 2008. I succeeded with each and every one of last years set goals, I hope I will be just as successful with these four things this year.

Work Hard, Play Harder

Most of 2007 was spent working hard, toward the latter end I found myself wasting a lot more time than I would like to admit. This years goal is to push myself to work as hard as possible, while really enjoying myself after the fact. I know I can work and play hard, I just need to separate the two and focus on the task in hand.

Learn And Master Photography

I’ve learnt a lot this past year from my main hobby, photography. I hit last years New Years Resolution to take 15,000 images over the course of 2007, and this year, plan to not only continue taking images, but to read books, listen to fellow photographers, and further my knowledge of the art.

Make Decisions And Never Look Back

It was just a few evenings ago while I was watchig Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift where I picked up on this quote. Life is all about making decisions, to then make the most of them, we need to keep our heads up and never look back. Look at the positives, and reap ther best we can from all situations. I will do my best this year to make positive choices, and never look back at them - just keep moving forward.

Be Less Materialistic

Notice in this years list I don’t have anything listed under a heading “Buy ??” This year I plan to be far less materialistic than I have in the past. No large impulse purchases, minimal amounts of cash spent on technology, and just watching my wallet in general. Sure, if a really nice MacBook Pro update comes along, I’m not ruling out the chance of upgrading, there will just be a longer and more thorough thought process involved.

Well Glenn, great to see your making up some resolutions, i havent made any yet but i still have my main goals engraved into the interior of my skull ;)like doing well at school etc etc

your first goal, Work Harder Play Harder, will be one of your most important, as im guessing your entering Y11 and NCEA lvl 1, however being who you are im sure you would have completed some NCEA lvl 1 courses allready like i had prior to Y11, this will take some slack off however at times you may get upto 4-5 internals all at the same time, it can get very stressful so be prepared for the worst case senarios on due dates. Also another tip, again i doubt you would do this, but dont stress about end of year exams either, they are probably the most funnest/cruziest part of the year

Now go out there and get yourself some E’s

  19. Glenn,

Very good post. I really loved these resolutions. So positive and optimistic. I love your determination and tenacity in relation to your photography - and an excellent job you do, too. I have bookmarked this page for future reference because I want to teach myself how about the maintenance of decisions and the importance of sticking to a goal - and to show my friends how much of a superficial asshole you are.

    Cheers.

  20. Codie. Did Level One last year, entering Year 12 this year :-)

    Nice, good luck Glenn.

  22. You could take 200,000 pictures, but count doesn’t matter. It’s how many decent, publishable shots you end up with. I could take five photos a year, they could all be good, and still end up with more than someone who took a million shots and ended up with one good one.

Number of photos shouldn’t be a resolution. Number of good photos shouldn’t even be a resolution. Numbers suck.

  23. Well done Glenn, Great resolutions

    Good luck young man :o)

  25. Pretty good resolutions there. Good luck with them!

  26. Glenn be warned… Yr12 Maths, English and most science subjects are a lot harder than Yr11.

well… so they say, I didn’t really think so lol

  27. hey Glenn, happy new year bud. good luck on your resolutions, i love reading your blog! i just started blogging about tech and gadgets myself, yours is always an interesting site to visit. cheers bud

  28. Hurray for less materialism. Don’t look back on that decision.

  29. Glenn, I’ve been reading your site infrequently for quite a while. I have also noticed the negativity of the last few posts and I am glad you are turning it into something positive.

Your passion for photography will get you far. Good luck!
