Mockup Of “iMail”
Recently while browsing Flickr I came across an image from user Shaahin. The image was a Photoshop mockup of what he wants an Apple mail application to look like.

He says: These days every new Macintosh app looks like Mail.app, so I was thinking about a unique logo for the application, to give it a different look. That name is chosen just for fun, it sounds classic.
I really like the look of this, and hope Apple will do something a little different for Mail 3.0 in Leopard.

I found this mockup a week ago and thought about putting it on my blog, however I just don’t think anything major will happen to Mail

Pretty cool. I like the design, I just don’t want another ‘i’ app.
@ Josh: I like where your blog is going. It’s getting better with each post. Yep, I’m subscribed. You’re WP theme could use an overhaul, though.

I like some of the concepts shown in the mockup but I’m not a really big fan of the iTunes 7 buttons.

wphI don’t think it’s that good. What’s the purpose of a giant icon saying “Inbox” and showing the stats of your mailbox on the front section.
That should be in a different setting section, and your actual messages should be front-and-center, just like it is now.

I agree with wph. I am not that big of a fan of this. It still looks pretty good though, I guess.

I don’t like it at all. The toolbar is huge, the iMail icon is pointless and wastes space, and why is there a mini-toolbar with only one “customize page” button?
If anything I would like Apple to get rid of those awful Mail buttons that showed up in 10.4 and go back to the ones in 10.3 or something else that is better.

and here we have an example of poor UI design…
haha. just kidding ;) I don’t like it myself, but to each his own!

@ Smaran - Thanks alot. Yes I know the theme is horrible, but I liked the colour. The layout of it isn’t great. I’m settling into blogging first (I’ve only been doing it for a month), then hopefully when I get time after exams I can purchase the domain and put it on its own server. If anyone can offer any help in advice about hosting, producing and editing the blog email me at maconlyreview@googlemail.com

But about the iMail post, everytime I look at it makes me think how unoriginal it is. Apart from the changed name and the ‘home screen’, how is it different to the current Mail app we all love?

@ Josh: I think you should stay with WordPress.com for now. When your blog gets bigger and more popular only then consider dolling out cash for stuff like hosting and a domain name.

I like the general view of the inbox but the logo in the toolbar isn’t too cool.

@Smaran - Don’t worry I’m not moving from Wordpress anytime soon. I just want to learn everything now so I’m prepared

Very nice - I hope apple implement the 3 pane view in Leopard’s mail.

wph, I like the general idea of having an inbox overview, I’m the kind of person who likes to look at stats to see what’s going on.

Looks very nice! The Top area where it says iMail, Get mail, etc, and the Spotlight box looks a big “fat” to me… That might just be me though.
