Keep Motivated With Inspiration Cards

Often when I am sitting at the computer and have to work, I get distracted by all the other things going on in life and this often drains away all my motivation and inspiration from writing the masterpieces I know I can.

How do you get inspired to write? I personally didn’t know, until I found that reading others sites generally gave me the drive and determination to keep churning out top notch content. Thats when I realized, all I need to put words onto paper is to put words into my head.

I sat down and made a stack of cards with motivational phrases on them and sat them in a little card holder on my desk. Every time I lack inspiration I take a glance at the card of the day, and it provides me with enough drive to get started. From them on I’m alone and the rest just flows.

How do you keep inspired?

  1. Hey Glenn,

Nice post, this really gives me the urge not only to post great content, but to maybe make some motivational cards for myself or at least to find another way to keep me motivated. Thanks!

  2. Hey Glenn. :) This is a really interesting concept. Good thinking.

    Whatever works for you…
    Haha.

I see myself as a pretty focused person so I don’t have too much trouble getting distracted. When I need a break I usually check my RSS feeds: Phill Ryu, FreeMacWare, You, Adam Betts, Mac Heist, MacAppADay, Cha-Ching, and Call Me Fishmeal.

After a few articles I get back to work.

  4. Glenn, what does the second card say? The one starting with “People…”
    Cheers.

  5. I really need inspiration for some great content, maybe I should try this, so I don’t publish more comments like this one.

  6. How do I keep inspired? Hm….

I honestly don’t know. I’m not the kind of person who needs to be inspired. I’m more random and erratic. I do what I think might be fun in any given moment.

I like the idea of having little inspirational notes on cards. It’s just not something I would do.

  7. Awesome idea with the cards.

I’m so with Smaran. Most of the projects I do are for myself, so don’t need to motivate me :)

When I do work for others I try to finish it as fast as possible.

  8. On the wall next to my Mac I have a picture of Tiger Woods with his head down after missing a critical putt at the Masters. Every time I look at it I get reminded that everyone has bad days or makes mistakes, and that we can only learn from them. That’s what insprires me to get better and not be afraid of making errors.

  9. @ Kristiano

It says “People Listen To Me”

    @ Josh

That sounds really great, I hope to make your wording more simple and make it into a card somehow :-)

    @ Yannic

Most of the projects are for me too, but it doesn’t stop the distraction of email and rss ;-)
