I’ve Taken The Plunge On A DSLR

That’s right, if you couldn’t tell from the title I’ve finally taken the plunge on a DSLR after all of your advice and help. What did I chose? The Canon EOS 350D.

So far I’ve taken around 100 test shots, the DSLR gives me immensive control over what I’m shooting. I’ve already done some comparisons to my Sony P&S and it wasn’t even worth my time, the 350D blew the Sony away in image quality.

Canon350D

Current kit: Canon EOS 350D Body, 18-55 Kit Lens.
Coming Soon: 2GB CF Card, 50mm 1.8 Lens, 75-300 Lens.

  4. Wow. Nice camera. Where’d you get all that money? Blogging? If that’s the case, I should get into it soon.

Welcome to the Canon club :-)
One recommendation for your camera setup. If you can afford, get rid of the kit lens (it’s crap) and buy a good lens in this focus range.

..and how could they be more portable? hehe. funny how some think. an SLR is an SLR and will always be an SLR. i mean. that’s why the sell Point n Shoots.. so that they can be portable.

  11. Grr, I’m stuck with a Nikon D50.

  12. Nice buy! My brother has the Digital Rebel XT which is pretty sweet too, especailly when I steal it ;)

  13. It’s really not the body that matters so much. sometimes it’s not even the lenses.

    a colleague,
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/williamlester, shoots with a 300D, the kit lens and a sigma wide-angle.

it’s really more about the composition, DOF and shutter speed. master those, and you’ll do fine on disposable film cameras, D80s (mine), 350Ds, D50s and anything else, even compacts.

  16. [...] After taking the plunge on a DSLR and moving to Aperture, I am demanding a machine with more power to edit my images and perform system intensive tasks such as editing video and audio content. I have a few gripes about my current setup, firstly, the RAM restriction. I can only install up to 2GB of RAM in my iMac (currently at 1.5GB). The screen is also far too limiting now I am using Aperture, 17″ just doesn’t cut it anymore, I want to move to a 1920×1200+ resolution display. [...]

Looking back on your circumstances, (10 vs. 8 megapixels… etc.) I’d say you made the right decision. I do a lot of printing work and I have both the 350D and 400D, and there is a significant difference in the prints. Seeing that you won’t be using the 400D to it’s max, the 350D was the right choice.
