First Australian Apple Store, Coming Soon

Apple have announced that the first official Apple retail store is coming soon to Melbourne, Australia. The store is part of a $200 million redevelopment the city is currently undergoing.

The store will feature a glass atrium ceiling, and will be adjacent to a hotel and shopping complex connected by a clear, circular-panel walkway.

I’m really excited about seeing Apple expand further across the globe with their first store in Oceania. It’s exciting news seeing something from Apple this close to home (okay, 2000KM is not that close).

Now Apple, where’s an Apple Store for Auckland City, New Zealand? I’ll be first in-line for the opening with money in hand.

Have you even been to an Apple store, and if so, what one/s?

Comments

  1. I was the first in the store at the Burlington Mall (MA, USA) for the Grand Opening.

  2. UK got another one recently, in Southampton but when are they going to put one in Newcastle!?!

  3. I’ve been to both the Apple Store openings here in Manchester (Trafford Centre and Arndale Centre), with me being 3rd in line at the Arndale Store after getting up at 5am. Nothing beats standing outside a mall in shorts and in late September at 5.30am. Nothing, I say!

  4. Oh I wish the would open some stores in Germany.

Of course we have some good resellers here and their shops look similiar to the original retail stores, but you know it’s simply not the same. ;)

  5. Out of the 4 Apple Stores in Canada, 3 of them are in my city, Toronto. I was at the grand opening for 2 of them, and got a t-shirt at the first opening in Canada when i was 11 or something :) I have also been to countless Apple Stores around the continent, including the Fifth Avenue Store :)

  6. There’s one in Menlo Park Mall, in Edison, New Jersey. I’ve been there numerous times, but putting it in a mall doesn’t really do an Apple Store justice. It’s great, but I really hope to hit up the store in NYC soon. Maybe that’ll be where I buy my MacBook in June. Or not, just in case I need to bring it back.

  7. I live in Raleigh, North Carolina–where there are three prominent universities very close to each other. As a result? I have two Apple stores within 20 minutes of my house. It rocks.

I have been/go to 2 different stores in Minnesota, at The Mall of America and the Rosedale(?) Mall.

Always fun to stop in and look around.

  9. As previosuly mentioned we had an Apple store open here in Southampton UK yesterday, I posted some pix at http://www.philbridges.com/photos/displayimage.php?album=2&pos=0

Quite an amazing sight to see the staff running down the lines of customers shaking eyerybody’s hands and yelling with delight, not to be missed!

  10. I’ve only been to one, at Brent Cross in the UK.

My roommate went to the Southampton one yesterday - he asked if I wanted to go but since I’m still recovering from flu I thought it was best not to.

    @phil Bridges:
Have you been to any others? Just wondering how it compared! I hear that the Regent Street one was amazing.

Still waiting on that elusive Sydney store…

  12. Thats really cool, we have an Apple Store opening in the Ann Arbor Mall in the near future. It will be nice to have one near by.

  13. Thats a good start, we do need one in Sydney though :)

I have been only to 3 Apple stores so far, first one was in Durham, SouthPoint, North Carolina, North Michigan Avenue in Chicago (right on Magnificient mile) then in Stockton Street, San Fransisco.

Apple stores are a lot of fun to say the least :)

  14. Yes, I have been to one Apple Store. It was one of the best stores I have been to to say the least, and I wasn’t even that large, but I have been to the one in Denver, Colorado, in the Cherry Creek Mall.

    It was a great place!

  15. @Amit:

I love the Southpoint store :).

  16. Here’s my list:

    Houston, TX Galleria
    Atlanta, GA Lenox
San Jose, CA Mall (not sure of the name)
    Cupertino, CA Company Store
Washington, DC Outdoor Mall (forgot the shopping center name as well)
New York 5th Av Cube Store
    Bethesda, Maryland Store
and I think one in Virginia

  17. Auckland??? Glenn you better not be a JAFA!! (just another fabulous aucklander!!) :)

  18. I was born and bought up in Auckland, before moving to Napier then on to Rotorua.

The reason I stated Auckland as that’s the place an Apple store would go if one reached our shores.

  19. Yeah, you aren’t wrong there!!

  20. I’ve been to every store but one in Illinois.

    I’ve been to:
Michigan Avenue (Best Store in IL)
    Oakbrook (Smaller Store)
    Old Orchard (Average Sized)
Woodfield(One of the first five opened, my brother works there, I plan to work there come age 18.)

I have yet to go to the one in Northbrook IL

  21. I’ve never been to one. Apple seems to hate Canada - giving us shotty support and only three Apple stores (two in Toronto, no less). :/

  22. @Pierre

    I totally agree.

It was my first ever apple store experience and chances are I’ll visit it again this year! Fingers crossed.

I believe the Sydney store will be coming before the melbourne store. At least, It was announced before the Melbourne store.

  24. We’ve got Apple Centeres already, of course… so this really isn’t that much of a big deal. I’m a Melbourner, and I think it’s a good idea to put one in/near the city; although the location they’ve chosen is a really bad idea.

  25. I live in Manchester which has 2 Apple Stores (on in the center of town, one in old trafford), and my hometown (which I live in when I am not at uni) is near to Nottingham which also has one.

Everytime I go shopping I always get lured into the store to play on the Macs, dunno why because I have my own, but there is something special about the Apple Store.

  26. It’s too bad Apple Stores are so concentrated in the US. UK, Japan, and Canada have a few, and the rest of the world is left in the cold.

Thankfully, the fourth store in Canada (Carrefour Laval) opened not too far from me, so I’m now covered (I went to opening, a lot of fun). The three others in Canada are in Toronto, which blows my mind. To any other canadiens, there are rumored stores for Calgary and Vancouver, the latter possibly flag-ship.

  27. I was at the opening of the Regent Street Store in November 2004. I was around 780th to be in the store so yes - I got a free T-Shirt (I have two infact). I bought a Tucano Skin which has lasted me till this day. Ron Johnson had gone by the time I got in. Four hours in less than 0C is dedication :)

Love it! Cant wait til this opens next year. With flights being so cheap (like $140 return) will have to make the trip down from Brisbane.
