Desktop Friday: The Tenth

Each and every Friday I post a desktop wallpaper for all the Mac users out there. The image is taken using my Canon 350D DSLR. Photography really interests me and this gives me a nice way to showcase some work, while giving readers something for nothing.

The wallpaper is sized at a resoultion of 2560×1600 pixels, big enough to be used on a 30 inch Apple Cinema Display, so no-one will miss out. No watermark has been applied to the image either, so play nice, I’m trust worthy that no one will steal my work.

Today’s desktop caption is: Sloping Hill

Feel free to leave any comments about this wallpaper below, it’d be nice to get a comment or two from people who decide to use it, have a great weekend, and enjoy!

Download it here.

    Can’t unarchive here either.

    Great picture though.

  3. Is that an Apple tree? Why is it posted under ‘Apple’.

It looks like you need a tripod. The shot has a distinctive ‘camera shake’ look. You might want to check out some of the photography communities for pointers before posting more photos.

  4. Nice one, I saw this on your Flickr page a while ago.

  5. I agree with James. It looks like the photo has some blur.

Also guys, check this out. Glenn was the nzmac.com podcast a couple months ago. Heres the iTMS link:

I took a quick peek at your work and the photography forum. You asked about a 50mm 1.8 lens for your b-day as you heard it was a really “great lens.” I can’t be bothered to register in the forum so here are my comments. You already have that focal length covered so I wouldn’t bother with it. Also note that a f1.8 lens is hardly “great” under low light conditions or when you want to play with the depth of field. The glass may be slightly better that your zoom-lens with slightly less edge artifacts but (using this image as an example) that isn’t really your problem. I don’t know if the b-day has passed, but to really improve your shots, I’d ask the folks for a tripod and/or a basic photography course. Alternatively, if you are particularly interested in landscapes than take one in composition. Either of these courses (+ a lot of practice) will improve your shots immensely.

Keep in mind that most of the great landscape shots (and even those in calenders) are still taken with 4×5, 5×7, or 8×10 field cameras + a solid tripod. You may want to take a look at some of the work by Ansel Adams.

  9. I picked up a tripod over Christmas, but have only used it with my Cricket photography to date.

I’m still throwing up ideas for my birthday present, it’s on February the 9th.
